​​​​​​​UCI BMX Racing Worlds Championships is coming downunder in 2026 to the Sleeman Supercross Track in Brisbane.

As the most accessible Worlds for NZ riders since Auckland in 2013, we're expecting a lot of interest - Slots are limited to 16 riders per age group listed below with primary and wildcard qualification pathways offered.

WORLDS Q&A SESSIONS AT NATIONALS

We will be running two Q&A session on Friday afternoon at Nationals in the Rugby Clubrooms next to the track

Everyone is welcome - A chance to ask any questions and maybe try on a sample jersey for sizing.

We will be covering the event logistics, classes offered, how to qualify, the NZ support team, the entry process including insurance and UCI licencing, travel planning and packages, team comms, access to training sessions, uniforms, supporters apparel and more.

Whether this will be your first time at Worlds or you're a seasoned Worlds campaigner there will be something in it for you.


Q&A Session 1: - 4.00pm (after 8-12 year olds practice)

The NZ Challenge entry process 2026 World Champs opens 27 March 2026

Key Process Dates : 

  • 26 March 2026 - Publication of riders eligible for Primary Selection
  • 27 March 2026 – 26 April 2026   - Rider Entry Window
  • 28 April 2026 - Selection Notification Deadline 
  • 31 May 2026 - Insurance Confirmation Deadline
  • 31 May 2026 -UCI Licencing Deadline
  • 3 July 2026 -UCI Publication of Rider Lists
  • 16 July – 25 July 2026 - 2026 BMX (Racing) World Championships, Brisbane, Australia

EVENT DATES FOR PLANNING

Worlds will run from July 16-25 incorporating the Championship and Challenge events.  New for 2026, the Championship class event will run before the Challange event.  Here are the key dates to consider when thinking about booking travel and accommodation.

Championship Class 

  • July 17          Official Practice
  • July 18-19    Championship Racing

Challenge Class

  • July 16-17    Rider Registration & Plate Collection (Mandatory)
  • July 20-21    Official Practice
  • July 22-25    Challenge Racing

Daily racing schedule will only be confirmed late June/early July by UCI, with racing for each class completed within one day. Up to 800 riders compete each day and the schedule determining which  classes race which days can vary from year to year.

WORLDS TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION PACKAGES

WORLDS AGE GROUPS

Announced by UCI on 7.10.2025 - Classes in RED are new from 2026 onwards. These replace the corresponding 2025 classes for a net increase of 7 female classes. 

Standard 20 Inch age group categories for Worlds are as follows:  

  • Boys – ages: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16;  
  • Girls – ages: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16;  
  • Men – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 and over, Masters 30+
  • Women – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 and over, Masters 30+

Cruiser 24-Inch age group categories for Worlds are as follows:

  • Boys – ages: 12 and under, 13 and 14, 15 and 16;  
  • Girls – ages: 12 and under; 13 and 14, 15 and 16;
  • Men – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45-49, 50 and over;
  • Women – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45-49, 50 and over.  

Riders licensed in the Masters category level for Standard 20 Inch may participate in the Cruiser 24-inch category corresponding to their age subject to available nation quota.

Minimum riders to consititute a class is 20 - Classes may be amalgamated to reach minimum size requirement. 

Riders under UCI8 are not eligible to enter Worlds. 

2026 WORLDS SUPPORT LETTERS

If you are applying for grants to help fund your Worlds aspirations, BMX NZ can provide a letter of support to accompany your application.

The application form for a support letter can be accessed via the drop down menu on the right of this page.  

Allow 5 working days for BMX NZ to process your request, prepare and distribute the support letter.
