2027 UCI Super Worlds - Haute-Savoie, France 

2027 UCI Super Worlds will take place in the Haute-Savoie department of France from mid August to early September 2027. 

The event will bring together 20 UCI World Championships at 12 sites, with some 10,000 athletes (Elite and Amateur) representing an expected 130-plus nations competing over 21 days for the 281 titles of UCI World Champion at stake. 

The venue for the BMX event at the 2027 UCI Cycling World Championships is now confirmed as Scionzier in France's stunning Haute-Savoie region.​​​​​​​

How to Qualify for the 2027 World Championships

To be eligible for selection, riders must be New Zealand citizens, hold a 2027 BMX NZ licence (or International Rider Registration), and submit an application during the rider entry window from 21 March to 2 May 2027. 

For most Challenge classes, riders who finish in the top eight at either the 2026 or 2027 BMX NZ National Championships automatically qualify for selection, subject to class quotas. Masters riders qualify by starting the corresponding Masters final at either Nationals. 

New Zealand can enter up to 16 riders per Challenge and Masters class, with riders who achieved a top-eight finish at the 2026 World Championships earning automatic selection in addition to the standard quota.  For riders who do not automatically qualify, we also offer a wildcard application process to allocate vacant places within these quota limits. 

Where classes are oversubscribed, BMX New Zealand will use additional criteria including World Championship results, National Championship placings and National Series rankings to determine final selections.

For New Zealand riders and families considering competing, early planning will be key.

Getting There

1. Geneva (GVA) - Most Convenient

• Located approximately 45 km from Scionzier, Geneva is the closest major international airport, with a driving time of around 35 to 45 minutes.

2. Lyon (LYS) - Best Balance of Cost and Convenience

• Around two hours by road from Scionzier, Lyon often offers competitive airfares and generally lower French rental vehicle costs.

3. Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) - Often the Lowest Airfare with more flight options

• 5-6 hour drive to Scionzier, or 2hr TGV train to Lyon to collect rental followed by a 2 hour drive.

Car Rental

For BMX families travelling with bike bags, race gear and luggage, a rental vehicle is strongly recommended.  It provides flexibility for transporting bikes and equipment, travelling to the track, and exploring the surrounding region. With over 10,000 athletes competing over 2 weeks, vehicle demand will be intense. Book early.

France-based rentals (Lyon or Paris)

• Typically offer better value.
• Larger range of station wagons, SUVs and people-movers.

Geneva rentals

• Convenient but often more expensive.
• Check whether collection is on the French or Swiss side of the airport.
• If hiring in Switzerland and staying primarily in France, confirm cross-border requirements before booking.

Where to Stay (Within 15 km)

• Scionzier (0-5 km) Closest to the venue, offering hotels, apartments and guesthouses. 

• Cluses (5 km) The largest nearby town with supermarkets, restaurants and a wider range of accommodation options.

• Les Carroz (10-12 km) A popular alpine resort village offering hotels, chalets and apartments in a spectacular mountain setting. 

• Arâches-la-Frasse and Châtillon-sur-Cluses (10-15 km) Ideal for families or larger groups seeking chalet-style accommodation and a quieter alpine atmosphere.

​​​​​​​Accommodation demand is expected to be high, so riders and families are again encouraged to book early.

The venue is perfectly positioned for sightseeing, with Geneva, Annecy, Chamonix and Mont Blanc all within easy reach, making the Worlds an excellent opportunity to combine BMX racing with a memorable European holiday.​​​​​​​
