UCI OCEANIA CHAMPIONSHIPS

The UCI Oceania BMX Racing Championships are being held in February at the Sleeman Supercross Track in Brisbane.

This is a great opportunity to test yourself against the best riders in Oceania and gain experience racing on the 2026 Worlds track.

All NZ licenced riders are eligible to enter.  Please have your BMX NZ Digital ID handy at registration. 

Riders to manage their own entries through the AusCycling entry system - Entry Boss. Further details on the event and how to enter are in the Challenge Rider Travel Guide under INFORMATION on this page. Entries are expected to open in December. 

Please note: BMX NZ do not provide on the ground management resources for riders at the Australian leg of Oceanias.

EVENT DATES FOR PLANNING

Oceanias will run on 21 February incorporating the Championship and Challenge events. Followed by Round 1 of the Australian National Series on 22 February. The National Series meet is separate from Oceanias, and requires completing a second entry.

PRE-OCEANIAS PRACTICE SESSIONS

Sleeman Race Venue

BMX NZ Sessions - Max of 60 riders per session

We have confirmed two track sessions for NZ riders on the Oceanias/Worlds Track on 18 February

  • 10am-12pm (8m and 5m)
  • 12pm-2pm (5m only)

Rider access to these track sessions is via the session booking form under APPLICATION FORMS on this page and requires prepayment. (NZD 25 per rider per session)


Open Sessions

There will also be open sessions during the week leading up to Oceanias.  These will incur a cost per rider and should be booked directly with the session organisers.  Details to follow.

PREPARING FOR OCEANIAS - RULE DIFFERENCES

AusCycling plans to use 2026 Oceanias as preparation for hosting Worlds in 2026. This will include running both the Championship and Challenge events based on the UCI Rulebook rather than the AusCycling or BMX NZ rulebooks you may be used to.  Key differences to consider:

Challenge Age Groups Available

Oceanias will offer only the UCI age groups announced by UCI on 7.10.2025 

Standard 20 Inch age group categories for Worlds are as follows:  

  • Boys – ages: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16;  
  • Girls – ages: 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16;  
  • Men – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 and over, Masters 30+
  • Women – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35 and over, Masters 30+

Cruiser 24-Inch age group categories for Worlds are as follows:

  • Boys – ages: 12 and under, 13 and 14, 15 and 16;  
  • Girls – ages: 12 and under; 13 and 14, 15 and 16;
  • Men – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45-49, 50 and over;
  • Women – ages: 17-24, 25-29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45-49, 50 and over.  

Riders licensed in the Masters category level for Standard 20 Inch may participate in the Cruiser 24-inch category corresponding to their age.

Minimum riders to consititute a class is 20 - Classes may be amalgamated to reach minimum size requirement. 

Uniform and Branding

  • No numbers on the back of Challenge rider jerseys will be permitted

UCI rule: 6.1.097

Each rider that has received a UCI International Elite number, and also the riders that choose to ride with a world number 1 - 8, may choose to print the number on the back of their jersey according to the following principles. Doing so is not mandatory. 

Only Elite riders who received a UCI International Elite Number through the UCI or Elite riders with a world number 1 - 8, may print a UCI International Elite Number or world number 1 - 8 on the back of the jersey if they choose. The UCI International Elite Number is not to be applied at any other location or onto any other item of clothing or safety equipment such as the pants or helmet. No other riders are allowed to print a number on the back of their jersey. 

  • No flag sleeves on Challenge rider jerseys will be permitted

UCI Rule: 6.1.084

The national team jersey is regulated in article 1.3.056 and the following: The national champion jersey is regulated in articles 1.3.068 and 1.3.069. For avoidance of doubt, only riders having won the title of National Champion in the Championship level categories are permitted to use a jersey with a distinctive sleeve as described in article 1.3.069. No riders in other categories are permitted to do so (either sleeve).

  • No UCI Rainbow stripes on Challenge Rider uniforms or equipment will be permitted

UCI Rule: 6.4.011

The title of “UCI BMX Racing World Challenge Winner” does not entitle the holder to in any way represent themselves as a “BMX Racing World Champion”, nor to use a replica of the World Champion’s jersey, nor to in any way incorporate the rainbow colours into his/her clothing or equipment.
